Devicescape Curated Virtual Network Surpasses 20 Million Locations

World’s largest virtual carrier Wi-Fi network on track to hit 100 million

SAN BRUNO, Calif., February 6, 2014—Devicescape today announced that its Curated Virtual Network (CVN) of amenity Wi-Fi hotspots has grown 82% year-on-year.  In surpassing the 20-million milestone forecasted for the end of 2013, the CVN is on track to grow to 100 million by the end of 2017.

Accelerated in size by a growing list of mobile operator customers and active subscribers, the CVN is the world’s largest virtualized carrier Wi-Fi network. Recent trials in both North America and Europe confirmed that the CVN is at least an order of magnitude—sometimes two—larger than other carrier Wi-Fi networks. For example, in San Francisco, the size of the CVN is nearing 30,000 hotspots, whereas operator deployments of base stations and small cells total no more than 350 per operator.

The CVN’s 20 million hotspots, which are carefully selected from a globally monitored collection of 315 million, are continuously available to end-users on Devicescape customer networks. Although not suitable for inclusion in the CVN, the outstanding 295 million hotspots combine with the 20 million in the Devicescape Service Platform (also announced today), and provide a substantial component to its Insight and Engagement Services.

“By leveraging amenity Wi-Fi, telecom operators can bring an ‘always best connected’ experience to their customers for a fraction of the cost of alternatives,” said Dave Fraser, CEO at Devicescape. “Our curation technology dynamically seeks, tests and adds tens of thousands of Wi-Fi hotspots to the CVN every day—making it the perfect complement to carrier deployed Wi-Fi.”

Devicescape will be exhibiting at Mobile World Congress 2014 in Hall 2, Suite 2O25. Please contact Devicescape to set up an appointment and see a live demonstration of the Access, Engagement and Insight Services suite on the Devicescape Service Platform.
